Fleshgod Apocalypse

The Slade Rooms Wolverhampton 10th March 2016.

Tonight, The Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton was set to play host to none other than Fleshgod Apocalypse, which really was something not to be missed – under any circumstances!

The first of tonight’s three support bands were Trivax, who hail from Birmingham and also from Tehran. With a solid reputation for delivering extreme metal, the bands set tonight brought together the growling vocals of Shayan S and the combined raging unity of Ben Sheldon, Matt Croton and Phil Taggart and created a perfect cyclone of unpredictability – which was quite something to behold. Trivax are not a band for the faint hearted but for the rest of us, they are an experience that has to be had!

With the Slade Rooms audience starting to grow in numbers, our second support band of the night Gehtika, took to the stage and in their own inevitable style and character, much great metal and shenanigans were had by all. The bands next big outing will be later this month when they will be heading Coventry way for the Mosh Against Cancer Festival on the 31st – so get that in your diary and keep checking Gehtika’s Facebook page for more details.

Scott Allen - Gehtika

The main tour support for the UK run of the Fleshgod Apocalypse tour were Xerath, whose intensely dark metal rewrites the rules with its groove filled core. With Richard Thomson providing Xerath’s lead vocals, their set tonight certainly hit the right spot with The Slade Rooms audience and I for one, was more than a little bit chuffed to have the chance to experience to see Xerath live.

Chris Clark - Xerath

With the deep red stage lighting for the first three bands being akin to what you would expect to find in Dante’s nine circles of hell, capturing the memory in pictures was pretty much an impossibility tonight, so I must apologize to Trivax, Gehtika and Xerath for the absence of photographs from their performances tonight.

When a metal band lists their influences as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig Van Beethoven, it’s a pretty safe bet that you are in for an experience that is one of a kind and that is exactly what you get with Fleshgod Apocalypse. Originating from Perugia, Italy, Fleshgod Apocalypse deliver symphonic metal with a classical approach that goes way beyond brutal and takes you into a far darker and carnivorous dimension.

Tommaso Riccardi - Fleshgod Apocalypse

Tonight’s set from the band comprised of several tracks from their recently released album ‘King’ aswell as many others from albums past, but for me, the highlight of their set was the performance of ‘Epilogue’ with the vocals of Tommaso Riccardi and Veronica Bordacchini surpassing the most vivid of imaginations in truly spectacular style.

Throughout the entirety of the bands set, The Slade Rooms was held captivate in an endless blaze of adrenaline fuelled metal and the hypnotic strobe lighting, which was fuelled even further by the spectacular drumming of Francesco Paoli and master of the bass, Paolo Rossi.

Without doubt, Fleshgod Apocalypse created an atmosphere that was one of a kind in my experience at the Slade Rooms and one that should never be missed when the opportunity arises again!
