Devilfire

With support from Mallen and The Blacklist Saints.
O2 Academy3 Birmingham 26th August 2017.

Tonight’s Hils Ovation gig is looking set to be one of a kind and headlining here at the O2 Academy3 are none other than Devilfire, most ably supported by Mallen and The Blacklist Saints.

With The Black Hounds having to step down from tonight’s line up at the last minute, this evening opening set came courtesy of The Blacklist Saints. Having not seen this band before, tonight’s set was a mighty fine baptism into their undeniably raw blend of punk’d rock ‘n’ roll and also a great introduction to the rawkus style of songs that their debut album ‘Intro Extro‘ holds firmly in its grip. Highlight of tonight’s performance for me, was the track “Est ’83” which definitely brought their set to an end on a high.

It’s been way too long since I last saw our next band Mallen and I have to applaud them loudly for the set that they delivered tonight, as all their hard work, commitment and self propelling determination really stood out in their on stage presence this evening. With several of their newer tracks featuring strongly in tonight’s set, I highly anticipate that their new and forthcoming EP will be striding out in exactly the right direction for Mallen but it was good to hear some of their older songs and once again, ” Welcome To The Edge” hit the spot for me.

And so we come to our headlining band of the night, Devilfire and to say I had been looking forward to seeing them live for the first time is most definitely an understatement! There is quite a buzz around this band and quite rightly so, as the combined talents of Alex Cooper, Baz Blackett, Davey Bennett, Lars Wickett and Richard Bloomer-Davies is the kind of line up that is guaranteed to produce an abundance of melodic hard edged rock that just squeals success!

With their new album “Dark Manoeuvres” due for release 6th October, tonight’s set from the band gave a blazing representation of it’s greatness and with songs such as “Waiting For A Rockstar” and “She’s Like Fire” having the kind of anthemic greatness that lasts even with time, Devilfire are set to take the rock scene by storm.

So reflecting back over this evening’s gig, I can’t help but feel slightly in awe of these three marvelous bands, who put on quite a show for us tonight. I’m quite sure that every local music scene has it’s talent but if what I saw and heard tonight is representative of the Midlands, then we most certainly are firmly on the map!

Devilfire

Ahead of their homecoming headline show!

Birmingham rockers Devilfire have unleashed a new music video for ‘She’s Like Fire‘. Taken from their stunning debut album ‘Dark Manoeuvres‘ (out 6th October) the video follows Devilfire’s European tour as special guests to former Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen.

She’s Like Fire‘ is the second single to be lifted from the new album following breakout track ‘Waiting For A Rockstar‘. Devilfire frontman Alex Cooper says, “Being in the rock scene you encounter some pretty extrovert people, I love that! This new song is about someone I knew that was just a whirlwind to me “dancing with desire.” I’m not afraid to say I was very into this person but not everything is meant to be. Always look to move forward in life.”

Devilfire headline the o2 Academy, Birmingham on the 26th August, and will play HRH Sleaze at Sheffield’s o2 Academy 2nd September with Faster Pussycat, Vain, Jizzy Pearl’s Love/Hate and more.

Dark Manoeuvres’ is a mammoth 13-track love affair. Calling on varied influences with a darker melodic sound, this hook laden, riff filled collection of music has been carefully crafted with passion. ‘Dark Manouevres’ is set to push rock’s boundaries with its honest British roots.

Devilfire

Release debut album ‘Dark Manouevres’ this October!

It’s said that some of the greatest bands of our time have been forged on the road, Devilfire is no exception..

Following 10 days of gigging to 2000 capacity sold out venues as special guests to former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen, Devilfire have forged a fiery path into the European Rock N’ Roll road. Returning to the UK to a sold out festival crowd at Hard Rock Hell AOR 2017 was the icing on the cake, and the Birmingham based melodic hard rock outfit are ready to conquer the world with their debut album ‘Dark Manoeuvres’ this October.

Mixed by acclaimed producer Romesh Dodangoda (Motorhead, Bring Me The Horizon, Bullet For My Valentine) and co-produced by Romesh and Devilfire frontman Alex Cooper (Shy, Quireboys Spike, Ginger) at Long Wave Studios in Cardiff, ‘Dark Manoeuvres‘ is a mammoth 13-track album. Calling on varied influences with a darker melodic sound, this hook laden, riff filled collection of music has been carefully crafted with passion. ‘Dark Manouevresis set to push rock’s boundaries with its honest British roots.

Lead singer Alex Cooper said: “I try to put my heart on the page, be as open and honest as its all I know”, says Cooper, “Dark Manoeuvres is a therapy for me. As an artist all you can do is try to put the listener into your shoes. I feel that is the greatest power of music. It’s always what I’ve loved when listening to any music that I emotionally connect with. With this debut album we’ve taken our time to curate the best possible music we can at this stage, and I honestly believe we’ve accomplished what we set out to do.”

Dark Manoeuvres‘ is such an accomplished debut album, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was Devilfire’s third, not first full length studio release. From the opening foot stomper ‘Ready For War‘, to the true immediacy of singles ‘Waiting For A Rockstar‘, ‘She’s Always On The Run‘, to the swing of ‘Tear Me Apart‘, and passion of closing track ‘Somehow‘, this new album wears its hooks loud n’ proud, whilst easily stamping Devilfire’s own take on modern rock music.

“The songs on this record are just so good”, agrees Romesh Dodangoda, “Devilfire are definitely a band for the future.”
