The Farewell Tour
at the O2 Academy, Birmingham, 19th October 2013.
With support from Patent Pending.
Patent Pending kicked off the night with a storming set of pop punk. The fast paced energy of their performance kept everyone entertained. I swear that they only stood still for a few moments in-between constantly bouncing around the stage. Not content with jumping around the stage, off into the crowd went lead vocalist Joe Ragosta for a bit of surfing. Not to be outdone, bassist Corey DeVincenzo joined in the fun with a crowd swimming challenge. It’s so easy to see how these guys compliment Bowling For Soup on tour as they are incredibly alike with their catchy, humorous lyrics and punky riffs.
After nearly twenty years of high school never ending, the pop punk band Bowling For Soup from Texas are still at the top of the power pop punk genre. Dubbed ‘The Farewell Tour’ front man Jaret Reddick was quick to assure fans that this is not the end; they will still be around albeit not as frequently as before. With the party atmosphere in full swing the infectious hits ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’, ‘1985’, ‘Stacey’s Mom’ and ‘High School Never Ends’ were amongst a thirty one song set with the band entertaining the crowd with frequent breaks for jokes and light-hearted banter with talk of beer, sex, beer, sex, beer, sex…. you get the picture. Even breaking away mid-song at one point to pose together across the stage for fans to get uninterrupted photos showed this is why we love ‘em. Bowling For Soup are one of the rare breed of bands where their fan base has spanned a generation with both parents and their kids sharing the love of Bowling For Soup. This is reflected in the audience mix tonight, young and old being treated to a fantastic punktastic show with every single person leaving with a smile on their face which would last for days.
